Safety
The safety question has an answer you can check.
Raw meat can carry harmful bacteria. So we test the finished food.
We test the food your dog will actually eat.
The testing is done by an independent, government-recognised laboratory.
Testing is done by a lab holding UKAS accreditation, the scheme the UK government recognises for laboratory competence.
The batch does not move while we wait.
Finished batch
Samples are taken after production, once the food has been made, sealed and frozen.
Held
The batch stays with us while the laboratory runs the tests. Nothing ships while the results are outstanding.
Released or rejected
If the results meet the release criteria, the batch is released. If they do not, it is rejected and does not ship.
Required for release
What has to be true before it ships.
Every batch has to meet both release criteria before it ships.
Then you can check your own batch.
Scan the code on the tray and you can see the report for the batch in front of you: what was tested, the result, the laboratory and the release date.
Not a summary from us. The report itself.

Straight answers.
What exactly do you test for?
Every finished batch is tested for Salmonella and Enterobacteriaceae, a hygiene indicator that shows whether the food was made under clean conditions. Both have to meet the release criteria before the batch ships.
The results are published for you to check.
What happens if a batch doesn't meet the release criteria?
It is rejected and does not ship.
Is it safe around children?
Yes, with the same habits you would use for raw chicken. Wash the bowl with hot soapy water, wash your hands, and feed the dog somewhere small children are not crawling or putting their hands.
It is no more involved than cooking a chicken breast.
What if someone in my household is immunocompromised?
Because Protocol Raw Complete is uncooked, it is not recommended where someone in your household, or your dog, is immunocompromised: during chemotherapy, on immunosuppressant medication, or after a transplant.
If that applies to you, check with your vet or doctor first.
Why is it frozen?
Freezing keeps the food stable and stops bacteria multiplying. It also lets each batch stay frozen with us while its results come back.
Release depends on the test results, not on freezing.
What will my vet say?
If your vet wants to see how your dog's food is tested, show them the batch report. It contains the test results, the laboratory and the release information.
Your dog's food. Tested before it ships. You can see the result for yourself.
